Primary intracerebral hemorrhage: most relevant aspects of the disease
Introduction. Intracerebral hemorrhage is very frequently one of the most ignored aspects of cerebrovascular disease. Aim. To review many aspects of intracerebral hemorrhage ranging from its epidemiology to its etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and prognosis. Methods. A thorough review of literature has been carried out paying special attention to papers published over the last few years. Actual tendencies in both medical and surgical treatment have been analyzed and some ideas for treatment have been derived from this review. Conclusions. It is obvious that there are important lacunes that affect many aspects of intracerebral hemorrhage management. Therefore we should assist in the near future to the performance of different trials that would come to offer data which reduce the uncertainties that affect this pathology.
